Chapter 17: Irene’s Story Begins

Welcome to Chapter 17 of the Blog Series Journeys to Health!

Irene’s story begins during a health check-up with her primary doctor. She was the heaviest she had ever been and was overally feeling horrible.
Irene was already taking a medley of medications – including some to manage her blood pressure. When her doctor entered the room, she did not
have great news for Irene… It was in that moment that Irene realized she had to take control back over her life or she was going to eventually die.

“She just looked at me and says, ‘Oh Irene, you got diabetes‘, and I felt like, you know, my world just like crumbled.
Then she says
to me, ‘you know, you did this to yourself,’ and she’s ready to write a script to me, you know, for insulin,
and I said,
no, I’m not doing this.”

Eventually, Irene discussed her situation with her brother, Teddy. Teddy had been dealing with MS for the past 25 years before finding and working
with Nancy for the last year and a half. Prior to working with Nancy, his cabinets were fully of different medications he had to take to even function.
His miraculous transformation truly inspired his sister and prompted her to reach out for some guidance.

“And he just looks completely transformed, his mental state, his physical state. I mean, he’s able to get on the treadmill and just his whole demeanor.. I said ‘I want some of that, like, what are you doing?’ And he said to me, ‘it’s not easy but you know I found this wonderful person and I’ve just really connected with her’ and I said ‘I want to meet her’, and that’s when I reached out to you. And I was so happy when you said that you could see me, cause I wasn’t sure with your schedule, if you were taking people on…”
