After years of searching for relief from Bartonella and Babesia, I found Water’s Edge Wellness. My story begins two years ago when I was bitten by a tick. I was experiencing symptoms similar to a heart attack. IGeneX testing confirmed this and I was put on four different antibiotics for a year. At the same time my children were also showing signs of Lyme Disease including anxiety, heart palpitations, an inability to focus mentally, and breathlessness. I learned about Nancy Angelini and have been completely symptom free now that I am three months into my weekly, all natural treatments. My daughters are also on the road to recovery and we owe it all to Water’s Edge Wellness.

Water’s Edge Wellness has been helpful with not only relieving my pain but also with educating me on prevention and corrective ways to take care of myself from head-to-toe. The environment at Water’s Edge Wellness is so peaceful, it is like taking a vacation from the stress of everyday life. My shoulder and back muscles were very tight from a previous neck injury and my friend recommended the services of Nancy Angelini to help with my pain. If you are looking for results, I would recommend Nancy Angelini at Water’s Edge Wellness.

It is with great pleasure that I share the sense of blessing I have for being in Nancy’s care…I had been on a downward spiral for years and did not understand the myriad of symptoms that plagued me…Despite my efforts to find answers in the traditional medical community the answers I was provided with were just temporary band-aids. I was right on target with what Nancy had predicted in terms of my turn around time. I still have a short way to go with treatment but have very high expectations for my life ahead. Thank you Nancy for what you do and for the care you have in doing it.

The improvements in my overall health have been very significant to me. What is remarkable is that I have only been your client for a mere 9 weeks. Since adopting your carefully designed and customized protocol I noticed my health started to improve just days into the program. I believe you have a very unique gift and your truly holistic approach to healing the body is magnificent. I haven’t felt this healthy, this vibrant since well before my bout with cancer over 20 years ago.

I met Nancy at a time when I was abandoned and left for dead by traditional western medical practices when my chronic Lyme Disease had been dismissed by every specialty I sought care from. I was so incredibly broken and every system in my body had begun to fail from a decade of missed tick born illness and total body toxicity burden. Nancy’s heartfelt approach and careful consideration of my case has saved my life. After partnering with her for a year I am well on my way to recovery from chronic illness and I owe it all to Nancy’s knowledge, compassion and tireless commitment to my improvement.

I started with Nancy in June of 2019 after having a knee replacement. Nancy helped me get more range and also made my scar look 100% better using cupping, moxa and topical herbal poultices as well as deep massage. I am still with her today as I had guillain barre in 2006. Nancy guided me through nutrition and herbs that played a big part in my recovery. Water’s Edge Wellness also has an HBOT (Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy) machine and I use it as often as I can. It helps me manage my symptoms.
Nancy is so kind, she really wants you to get better. She does not judge your past bad habits. To me, Nancy is brilliant and has an abundance of knowledge. She is very dedicated and passionate about her work. I enjoy going to her office and plan on seeing her for years to come.

With years of experience in holistic health practice, the team at Waters Edge Wellness understands that liver health is foundational to overall wellness. Your liver processes toxins, metabolizes nutrients, and regulates hormone balance-making it one of the most vital organs in your body. If you're searching for a liver detox natural approach in Newburyport MA or the surrounding North Shore communities in Essex County, Massachusetts, this guide will walk you through evidence-based steps to support your liver's natural detoxification processes.
Unlike extreme cleanses or restrictive protocols, a natural approach to liver detox focuses on nourishing your body and removing obstacles to your liver's inherent ability to function optimally. By the end of this guide, you'll understand how to implement sustainable practices that support liver health, improve digestion, and enhance your overall sense of wellbeing. Many clients at our Boxford, MA wellness practice have experienced significant improvements in energy, digestion, and hormone balance after committing to these foundational steps.
The first step in any liver detox natural approach is to remove foods that stress your liver and digestive system. This means temporarily eliminating processed foods, refined sugars, alcohol, and foods you may have sensitivities to. Your liver must work overtime to process these substances, diverting energy from its natural detoxification pathways. Common inflammatory foods include refined grains, seed oils high in omega-6 fatty acids, artificial additives, and pasteurized dairy products.
Work with a functional medicine practitioner to identify your specific food sensitivities through elimination diet protocols. Most people notice significant improvements within 2-4 weeks of removing triggering foods. Keep a food and symptom journal during this period to track how different foods affect your energy, digestion, and overall symptoms. This data becomes invaluable when developing your personalized wellness plan.
A healthy liver depends on a healthy gut. When your digestive system functions optimally, your liver has less work to do processing undigested food particles and bacterial endotoxins. Focus on adding nutrient-dense, whole foods that support both digestion and liver function. These include organic vegetables (especially cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, Brussels sprouts, and cabbage), quality proteins, healthy fats, and fermented foods rich in beneficial bacteria.
Incorporate these foundational foods into your daily routine:
These foods provide the micronutrients your liver needs to conjugate and eliminate toxins effectively. The goal is crowding out inflammatory foods with nourishing alternatives, not restricting calories or nutrients.
Your liver relies on adequate hydration to filter blood and transport waste products. However, not all beverages support this process. Remove sugary drinks, excessive caffeine, and alcohol-all of which increase your liver's detoxification burden. Instead, focus on clean water, herbal teas, and nutrient-dense liquids that actively support liver function.
Aim for half your body weight in ounces of filtered water daily. Add liver-supporting herbs to your hydration routine: milk thistle supports liver regeneration, dandelion root aids bile production, and burdock root promotes elimination. Warm lemon water upon waking stimulates bile production and supports your natural circadian detoxification rhythm. These simple shifts in hydration can profoundly impact your liver's capacity to process and eliminate waste.
Your liver detoxifies toxins through two primary phases: Phase 1 uses cytochrome P450 enzymes to modify toxins, and Phase 2 conjugates these modified toxins for excretion. A natural approach to liver detox provides nutritional support for both phases. Specific nutrients activate enzymes and provide the raw materials your liver needs.
Support Phase 1 detoxification with B vitamins, antioxidants, and flavonoids found in colorful vegetables. Support Phase 2 with sulfur-containing amino acids (found in garlic and onions), glycine (from bone broth and collagen), and glutamine (from grass-fed meat and bone broth). Many practitioners recommend adding a high-quality, third-party tested supplement protocol during this phase, but whole food sources should form your foundation.
True detoxification extends beyond the liver. Your body also eliminates toxins through your skin, lungs, lymphatic system, and colon. If these pathways are sluggish, toxins recirculate and burden your liver further. This is why practitioners recommend supporting elimination through multiple channels simultaneously.
Implement these practices to support whole-body elimination:
These practices create the optimal internal environment for your body's natural detoxification processes to flourish.
While the steps above provide a solid foundation for supporting liver health, individual needs vary significantly based on your health history, current symptoms, and genetic factors. Someone with autoimmune conditions requires a different approach than someone with primary digestive dysfunction. This is where professional guidance becomes invaluable.
At Waters Edge Wellness in Boxford, MA, and throughout the North Shore communities of Essex County, our holistic practitioners assess your unique situation and create a personalized liver detox natural approach tailored to your body's specific needs. We combine functional medicine testing, detailed health history, and evidence-based protocols to address the root causes of your health concerns rather than managing symptoms. Whether you're located in Newburyport, MA or surrounding areas, professional support ensures your detoxification process is safe, effective, and sustainable long-term. Consider scheduling a consultation to develop your personalized wellness plan and monitor your progress with appropriate functional medicine testing.
Most people notice initial improvements in energy, digestion, and mental clarity within 2-4 weeks of implementing these foundational steps, though deeper healing typically unfolds over 8-12 weeks. The timeline depends on your starting point, how consistently you implement the changes, and the severity of your symptoms. Functional medicine practitioners often recommend a minimum 90-day commitment to allow your body's detoxification systems to upregulate and stabilize.
Yes, but it requires careful personalization because aggressive detoxification can sometimes trigger immune responses in autoimmune conditions. A qualified holistic health practitioner will pace your protocol to support detoxification gently while managing your autoimmune condition. This typically means starting with dietary elimination and gentle lifestyle changes before introducing more targeted liver support. Working with someone experienced in both autoimmune disease and functional medicine is essential for safety and effectiveness.
While high-quality whole foods should form the foundation of any detoxification protocol, certain supplements-such as milk thistle, NAC, glycine, and methylated B vitamins-can amplify results and support specific detoxification pathways. However, not everyone needs the same supplements, and some can interfere with medications or existing health conditions. A functional medicine assessment determines which supplements are appropriate for your individual situation rather than following a one-size-fits-all protocol.
