After years of searching for relief from Bartonella and Babesia, I found Water’s Edge Wellness. My story begins two years ago when I was bitten by a tick. I was experiencing symptoms similar to a heart attack. IGeneX testing confirmed this and I was put on four different antibiotics for a year. At the same time my children were also showing signs of Lyme Disease including anxiety, heart palpitations, an inability to focus mentally, and breathlessness. I learned about Nancy Angelini and have been completely symptom free now that I am three months into my weekly, all natural treatments. My daughters are also on the road to recovery and we owe it all to Water’s Edge Wellness.

Water’s Edge Wellness has been helpful with not only relieving my pain but also with educating me on prevention and corrective ways to take care of myself from head-to-toe. The environment at Water’s Edge Wellness is so peaceful, it is like taking a vacation from the stress of everyday life. My shoulder and back muscles were very tight from a previous neck injury and my friend recommended the services of Nancy Angelini to help with my pain. If you are looking for results, I would recommend Nancy Angelini at Water’s Edge Wellness.

It is with great pleasure that I share the sense of blessing I have for being in Nancy’s care…I had been on a downward spiral for years and did not understand the myriad of symptoms that plagued me…Despite my efforts to find answers in the traditional medical community the answers I was provided with were just temporary band-aids. I was right on target with what Nancy had predicted in terms of my turn around time. I still have a short way to go with treatment but have very high expectations for my life ahead. Thank you Nancy for what you do and for the care you have in doing it.

The improvements in my overall health have been very significant to me. What is remarkable is that I have only been your client for a mere 9 weeks. Since adopting your carefully designed and customized protocol I noticed my health started to improve just days into the program. I believe you have a very unique gift and your truly holistic approach to healing the body is magnificent. I haven’t felt this healthy, this vibrant since well before my bout with cancer over 20 years ago.

I met Nancy at a time when I was abandoned and left for dead by traditional western medical practices when my chronic Lyme Disease had been dismissed by every specialty I sought care from. I was so incredibly broken and every system in my body had begun to fail from a decade of missed tick born illness and total body toxicity burden. Nancy’s heartfelt approach and careful consideration of my case has saved my life. After partnering with her for a year I am well on my way to recovery from chronic illness and I owe it all to Nancy’s knowledge, compassion and tireless commitment to my improvement.

I started with Nancy in June of 2019 after having a knee replacement. Nancy helped me get more range and also made my scar look 100% better using cupping, moxa and topical herbal poultices as well as deep massage. I am still with her today as I had guillain barre in 2006. Nancy guided me through nutrition and herbs that played a big part in my recovery. Water’s Edge Wellness also has an HBOT (Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy) machine and I use it as often as I can. It helps me manage my symptoms.
Nancy is so kind, she really wants you to get better. She does not judge your past bad habits. To me, Nancy is brilliant and has an abundance of knowledge. She is very dedicated and passionate about her work. I enjoy going to her office and plan on seeing her for years to come.

Let's explore what happens when menopause symptoms feel overwhelming and conventional treatments don't align with your values. For many women in the Medford area and surrounding North Shore communities of Essex County, Massachusetts, the transition through menopause brings more than just hot flashes and sleep disruption-it often triggers a cascade of interconnected health challenges including digestive changes, mood shifts, and persistent fatigue. Understanding why a menopause holistic approach in Medford MA offers a different pathway starts with recognizing that menopause isn't a deficiency that needs pharmaceutical replacement; rather, it's a profound hormonal transition that your whole body experiences together.
Sarah, a 52-year-old professional living in nearby Danvers, came to Waters Edge Wellness in Boxford after two years of escalating menopause symptoms. She experienced severe hot flashes that disrupted her sleep, leaving her exhausted by midday. Her digestion had become unpredictable-bloating, constipation alternating with loose stools, and food sensitivities that seemed to develop overnight. Her conventional doctor prescribed hormone replacement therapy, but Sarah felt uncertain. She wanted to understand why her body was reacting this way rather than simply masking symptoms.
Sarah's experience reflects a common pain point: many women feel caught between accepting troublesome symptoms and pursuing treatments they don't fully understand or feel comfortable with. Because estrogen and progesterone directly influence gut bacteria, digestive enzyme production, serotonin regulation, and inflammation levels, menopause creates a ripple effect throughout multiple body systems. A menopause holistic approach in Medford MA addresses this interconnectedness rather than treating hot flashes separately from digestion or mood.
Waters Edge Wellness began with comprehensive functional assessment rather than assumption. This involved detailed exploration of Sarah's:
The practitioner discovered that Sarah's gut dysbiosis-an imbalance in her bacterial colonies-was amplifying her inflammatory response during hormonal shifts. Her magnesium levels were depleted, which directly contributed to both her sleep disruption and muscle tension. Additionally, she had unrecognized blood sugar instability that was triggering more intense hot flashes throughout the day.
Rather than starting with supplements alone, the menopause holistic approach in Medford MA focused on foundational nutrition first. Sarah learned how specific foods either stabilized or destabilized her hormonal environment. She incorporated nutrient-dense whole foods that supported estrogen metabolism and gut bacteria diversity. The practitioner also recommended targeted natural botanicals-including sage leaf extract and red clover-supported by research showing effectiveness for hot flash reduction without systemic hormone effects.
Compare how different approaches address menopause symptoms:
| Approach | Focuses On | Time to Results | Addresses Root Cause |
|---|---|---|---|
| Conventional symptom management | Hot flashes, night sweats | Days to weeks | No-masks symptoms |
| Holistic hormone balancing | Gut health, nutrition, stress, inflammation | 4-12 weeks | Yes-systemic optimization |
Sarah's program also emphasized stress management and circadian rhythm support because cortisol fluctuations during menopause directly amplify hot flashes and disrupt sleep. She incorporated gentle movement practices and learned specific breathing techniques for immediate hot flash relief when they occurred.
After eight weeks following her personalized protocol from Waters Edge Wellness, Sarah experienced significant shifts. Her hot flashes decreased from eight to ten daily episodes to two to three mild ones, primarily in the evening. Her sleep improved markedly-she was falling asleep more easily and waking fewer times during the night. Her digestion normalized, bloating resolved, and she identified specific foods that triggered reactions.
Perhaps most importantly, Sarah felt active participation in her own health rather than passive reception of a prescription. She understood the connection between her nutrition choices and her symptom intensity. She recognized that her menopause holistic approach in Medford MA wasn't just about surviving this transition but about optimizing her health across all dimensions.
By month four, Sarah's energy had returned to levels she hadn't experienced in years. Her mood stabilized as her gut health improved-a direct result of the gut-brain axis relationship where digestive improvement supports mental wellbeing. She maintained her protocol with seasonal adjustments and continued working with the practitioner at Waters Edge Wellness to refine her approach as her body evolved through this life stage.
Sarah's transformation illustrates why many women across the North Shore communities of Essex County, Massachusetts are choosing functional, root-cause approaches to menopause rather than accepting it as an inevitable decline. A menopause holistic approach addresses your unique constellation of symptoms, considers how your systems interconnect, and empowers you with knowledge and tools for long-term vitality.
A menopause holistic approach investigates root causes-such as gut dysbiosis, nutritional deficiencies, and inflammation-rather than simply replacing hormones. This method takes 4-12 weeks to show results but addresses why symptoms are occurring, enabling sustainable relief without dependence on ongoing pharmaceutical intervention. Holistic practitioners also support your body's natural transition rather than attempting to restore pre-menopausal hormone levels.
Estrogen metabolism depends heavily on healthy gut bacteria, and menopause disrupts this delicate balance. Poor gut health amplifies inflammation, worsens hot flashes, disrupts sleep, and intensifies mood changes. By restoring digestive function and bacterial diversity through targeted nutrition and natural remedies, you reduce symptom intensity across your entire system because your gut influences hormone regulation, serotonin production, and immune function.
Research supports specific botanicals and nutritional approaches for menopause relief. Sage leaf extract, red clover, and magnesium supplementation have demonstrated effectiveness in clinical studies for reducing hot flashes and supporting sleep. Natural remedies work differently than pharmaceuticals-they take longer but address underlying deficiencies and imbalances rather than masking symptoms, making them genuinely effective for many women seeking alternatives.
Most women notice initial improvements within 3-4 weeks as nutritional changes stabilize blood sugar and reduce inflammation. More significant symptom resolution typically occurs between weeks 6-12 as gut health improves and nutrient deficiencies are replenished. Full optimization often continues over several months as your practitioner refines your personalized protocol based on how your body responds.
Yes, functional practitioners specialize in addressing interconnected health issues rather than treating conditions in isolation. If you have autoimmune conditions, digestive issues, or other chronic health concerns alongside menopause symptoms, a holistic approach actually works better because it identifies how all your systems relate. Your practitioner will screen for contraindications and create a protocol that supports your overall health picture.
