After years of searching for relief from Bartonella and Babesia, I found Water’s Edge Wellness. My story begins two years ago when I was bitten by a tick. I was experiencing symptoms similar to a heart attack. IGeneX testing confirmed this and I was put on four different antibiotics for a year. At the same time my children were also showing signs of Lyme Disease including anxiety, heart palpitations, an inability to focus mentally, and breathlessness. I learned about Nancy Angelini and have been completely symptom free now that I am three months into my weekly, all natural treatments. My daughters are also on the road to recovery and we owe it all to Water’s Edge Wellness.

Water’s Edge Wellness has been helpful with not only relieving my pain but also with educating me on prevention and corrective ways to take care of myself from head-to-toe. The environment at Water’s Edge Wellness is so peaceful, it is like taking a vacation from the stress of everyday life. My shoulder and back muscles were very tight from a previous neck injury and my friend recommended the services of Nancy Angelini to help with my pain. If you are looking for results, I would recommend Nancy Angelini at Water’s Edge Wellness.

It is with great pleasure that I share the sense of blessing I have for being in Nancy’s care…I had been on a downward spiral for years and did not understand the myriad of symptoms that plagued me…Despite my efforts to find answers in the traditional medical community the answers I was provided with were just temporary band-aids. I was right on target with what Nancy had predicted in terms of my turn around time. I still have a short way to go with treatment but have very high expectations for my life ahead. Thank you Nancy for what you do and for the care you have in doing it.

The improvements in my overall health have been very significant to me. What is remarkable is that I have only been your client for a mere 9 weeks. Since adopting your carefully designed and customized protocol I noticed my health started to improve just days into the program. I believe you have a very unique gift and your truly holistic approach to healing the body is magnificent. I haven’t felt this healthy, this vibrant since well before my bout with cancer over 20 years ago.

I met Nancy at a time when I was abandoned and left for dead by traditional western medical practices when my chronic Lyme Disease had been dismissed by every specialty I sought care from. I was so incredibly broken and every system in my body had begun to fail from a decade of missed tick born illness and total body toxicity burden. Nancy’s heartfelt approach and careful consideration of my case has saved my life. After partnering with her for a year I am well on my way to recovery from chronic illness and I owe it all to Nancy’s knowledge, compassion and tireless commitment to my improvement.

I started with Nancy in June of 2019 after having a knee replacement. Nancy helped me get more range and also made my scar look 100% better using cupping, moxa and topical herbal poultices as well as deep massage. I am still with her today as I had guillain barre in 2006. Nancy guided me through nutrition and herbs that played a big part in my recovery. Water’s Edge Wellness also has an HBOT (Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy) machine and I use it as often as I can. It helps me manage my symptoms.
Nancy is so kind, she really wants you to get better. She does not judge your past bad habits. To me, Nancy is brilliant and has an abundance of knowledge. She is very dedicated and passionate about her work. I enjoy going to her office and plan on seeing her for years to come.

If you're searching for natural remedies for gut health in Atkinson, NH, you're likely experiencing digestive dysfunction that conventional approaches haven't fully addressed. The gastrointestinal system is a complex ecosystem where dysbiosis (microbial imbalance), intestinal permeability, and inflammatory responses often underlie symptoms like bloating, irregular bowel movements, and food sensitivities. Understanding the mechanistic differences between various natural remedy approaches can help you make informed decisions about which strategy aligns with your physiology and health goals.
The human gut microbiome contains approximately 39 trillion microbial cells representing hundreds of distinct species. When this ecosystem becomes imbalanced through poor diet, stress, antibiotic exposure, or inflammatory triggers, dysbiosis develops. Natural remedies for gut health address this by restoring microbial diversity and function rather than suppressing symptoms. The intestinal lining itself-a single layer of epithelial cells tight-junctioned together-can become compromised, a condition sometimes referred to as increased intestinal permeability. This allows bacterial lipopolysaccharides and undigested food particles to cross into systemic circulation, triggering immune responses throughout the body.
| Remedy Category | Mechanism | Strengths | Limitations |
|---|---|---|---|
| Probiotics and Prebiotics | Introduce or feed beneficial bacteria; restore microbial diversity | Evidence-based; multiple species available; addresses dysbiosis directly | Individual response varies; must match specific strains to condition; shelf stability concerns |
| Herbal Anti-Inflammatories | Reduce mucosal inflammation through polyphenolic compounds | Address root inflammation; reduce intestinal permeability; well-tolerated | Slower results than pharmaceuticals; quality and potency vary by source |
| Dietary Modification | Remove inflammatory triggers; provide microbiome-supportive foods | Sustainable long-term; addresses food sensitivities; no adverse effects | Requires significant lifestyle change; results dependent on adherence; individual trigger foods vary |
| Digestive Enzymes | Optimize macronutrient breakdown; reduce undigested food reaching colon | Immediate symptom relief possible; targeted support for specific deficiencies | Treats symptom, not root cause; dependency risk if used chronically without addressing underlying issues |
| Bone Broth and L-Glutamine | Provide amino acids that support epithelial cell repair and tight junction integrity | Supports mucosal healing; nutrient-dense; anti-inflammatory | Best used as part of comprehensive protocol; individual absorption varies |
Rather than applying a single remedy universally, functional medicine practitioners assess your specific presentation through detailed dietary history, symptom timeline, stressor identification, and sometimes functional testing such as comprehensive stool analysis or food sensitivity panels. Natural remedies for gut health work most effectively when matched to your individual pathophysiology. For instance, someone with methane-predominant small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) may benefit from different herbal protocols than someone with bile acid malabsorption. This precision-based approach distinguishes evidence-based natural medicine from generic supplement recommendations.
Waters Edge Wellness, located in Boxford, MA, and serving surrounding North Shore communities throughout Essex County, Massachusetts, specializes in this type of individualized assessment. Rather than recommending the same protocol to every patient, practitioners here conduct thorough evaluations to identify whether your gut health challenges stem from dysbiosis, food sensitivities, digestive insufficiency, or intestinal barrier dysfunction. This diagnostic precision ensures your natural remedy protocol addresses root causes rather than simply masking symptoms. The practice combines functional medicine testing with nutritional counseling and personalized botanical recommendations tailored to your unique presentation.
An effective natural remedies for gut health strategy typically unfolds in phases: first, reducing inflammatory triggers through dietary elimination; second, supporting healing and restoration through targeted nutrients and botanicals; third, rebuilding microbial diversity through appropriate probiotic and prebiotic interventions; and fourth, establishing sustainable dietary and lifestyle practices that maintain long-term gut resilience. The timeline for symptom resolution varies-some people experience improvement within weeks, while more complex presentations may require 12 to 24 weeks of consistent protocol adherence. Success depends not only on remedy selection but also on stress management, sleep quality, physical activity, and hydration, all of which influence gut function at the mechanistic level.
While many natural remedies are accessible over-the-counter, working with a qualified holistic practitioner ensures your approach is both safe and effective. Certain conditions, such as inflammatory bowel disease or severe dysbiosis, warrant professional assessment before self-treating. Additionally, natural remedies can interact with medications or underlying conditions-a personalized consultation provides essential safety oversight. Practitioners at Waters Edge Wellness can evaluate your health history, identify contraindications, and design a coherent protocol that complements your overall health goals rather than working in isolation.
The most effective natural remedies address your specific gut dysfunction: probiotics and prebiotics restore microbial balance, herbal anti-inflammatories reduce mucosal damage, dietary modifications eliminate trigger foods, and bone broth provides amino acids for intestinal repair. The optimal approach depends on your individual presentation, which is why professional assessment through functional medicine evaluation is valuable.
Timeline varies significantly depending on the severity of dysbiosis or inflammation and your adherence to the protocol. Some people notice symptom improvement within two to three weeks, while more complex presentations may require 12 to 24 weeks of consistent remedy application before substantial changes occur. Consistency in dietary adherence and lifestyle factors like sleep and stress management directly influence outcomes.
Probiotics are one component of a comprehensive approach, not a standalone solution. While probiotics can help restore microbial diversity, they work best when combined with dietary modifications, removal of inflammatory triggers, and support for intestinal barrier healing. Addressing the underlying causes of dysbiosis-such as poor diet, chronic stress, or food sensitivities-is essential for lasting improvement.
While many natural remedies are available without prescription, professional guidance ensures your approach is safe, appropriate for your specific condition, and free from contraindications with medications or existing health issues. A holistic practitioner can conduct functional testing, identify root causes, and design a coordinated protocol rather than random supplementation, significantly improving your likelihood of success.
