The Body Naturally Detoxifies, but Still Needs Help

Have you ever just marveled at the magnificence of our bodies? Whether thinking, walking, talking, or digesting, the human body can seem like a work of mysterious perfection. Of course, there is a lot going on behind the scenes. Each organ, muscle, and even the smallest cell has a purpose and a function. In our line of work, in which we focus on healing and detoxifying the body, we are especially amazed at the body’s natural ability to constantly self-heal and self-cleanse. Knowing this, many of our clients often ask: why, if our body naturally detoxifies, do we need further detoxification through such methods as an IonCleanse® foot bath, Hyperbaric Oxygen (HBOT) application, or Therapeutic Body Work? Let’s take a closer look at the way our organs naturally detoxify and why it is important to access other methods to support our internal systems.

Our Natural Detoxifying System

Human beings are born with a built-in detoxification system. The organs that take part in these functions include: the skin, liver, colon, kidneys, and respiratory system.

● Our skin is on the front lines in the fight against environmental toxins. Due to its elasticity and the fact that it is impervious to water, the skin prevents many toxins from entering our bodies to begin with. In addition, our skin releases toxins that are water-soluble through the natural process of sweating.

● The liver is our chief detoxifier that removes toxins from our blood.

● The colon helps eliminate solid waste from our internal systems.

● Our kidneys move more than 200 quarts of fluid through our bodies daily, expelling waste and toxins in the form of urine.

● The complex respiratory system expels metabolic wastes, such as carbon dioxide, in the simple form of an exhaled breath.

Why We Need Help Detoxifying

The human body is constantly working to dispel toxins and unwanted matter from all of these various systems. Unfortunately, in our everyday lives, we are exposed to more toxins than our bodies can handle. Environmental pollutants and toxins such as heavy metals (e.g. mercury, lead, aluminum, and cadmium) chlorine, pesticides, PCBs, molds, and fungal toxins (e.g. dioxins, chloroform, and phthalates) can slow down our organs’ natural ability to detoxify. The toxins we are talking about are not just in the form of carbon emissions from cars and trucks, but in the everyday items that we use in our home such as cosmetics, plastic water bottles, tap water, the foods we eat, toothpaste, and our beverages of choice, just to name a few. In fact, in the past 100 years, there have been over 120,000 chemical compounds created, with over 50% of those known to be toxic to human life. That is in excess of 60,000 toxic chemicals that can potentially find their way into our environment (Environ Work Group).

In order to support and enhance our body’s natural detoxification systems, we need to make detoxification part of our lifestyles. One way to do this is to access one of our services such as an IonCleanse® foot bath, Hyperbaric Oxygen (HBOT) application, or Therapeutic Body Work. Each of these programs can help reduce the effects of long-term exposure to toxins and environmental pollutants. Our clients find that the benefits can include: improved skin quality, increased energy, relief from pain conditions, enhanced immune functioning, increased mental clarity, and better digestion. No matter how cleanly you live or eat, external factors still require us to give our bodies a chance to dispel anything hampering the efficiency and quality of our own internal detoxification systems.

It’s important to note that most folks look to detoxification practices because they aren’t sick medically, they just don’t feel great. If you want to see if you would truly benefit from a cleanse, download this FREE questionnaire and see what your toxicity score really is
